The celebrated heavyweights have released a stylish new cover of the psych heroes' recent hit

More Northlane More Northlane

It's been a while between tour-flavoured drinks — 18 months or so — for Australian fans of local metalcore juggernauts Northlane, but the wait for another run of homeland shows is almost over.

To help tide us over until the band commence their cross-country run of gigs in honour of their acclaimed recent full-length, Node, next month, Northlane today unveiled their own cover version of the usually-slightly-more-psychedelic Let It Happen, by fellow international powerhouses Tame Impala, recorded by Northlane while on the road in Europe on their current continental tour, because sleeping is for chumps.

According to guitarist Josh Smith, Northlane has been eyeing off releasing a cover for a little while but the members' disparate individual tastes made picking a song more taxing than you'd expect.

"Then one day [guitarist] Jon [Deiley] came to a rehearsal with the first minute of this as a rough demo on his phone to show us and it clicked," Smith said in a statement. "Tame Impala might seem an odd choice for a cover from us, but it's a band that has a fairly similar writing process, and a few common threads within their music and lyrics."

As mentioned, Northlane's national Node tour is just around the corner, kicking off on the west coast at Metropolis, Fremantle, on Wednesday 4 November, and runs through to Sunday 15 November, with stops in Adelaide, Melbourne (three shows, one sold out), Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane (two shows, one sold out).
