Australian-bred tour promoter Frontier Touring has made an unprecedented impact at this year's Billboard Touring Awards, becoming the first-ever Australasian company to earn the title of Top Independent Promoter (International) at this year's ceremony at the Roosevelt Hotel, New York.

It takes little more than a cursory glance at the list of names brought to Australia in 2015 by Frontier — stacked with the likes of Foo Fighters, Drake, Kylie Minogue, Eagles, Rod Stewart, alt-J, Chet Faker, not to mention impending sojourns for Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Rise Against, Sam Smith and more — to see why the company earned the nod, with managing director Michael Gudinski describing the win as "such an honour to be recognised as the leading independent international promoter by Billboard".

"Even more significantly, we are the first-ever Australasian promoter to receive this award," Gudinski said in a statement.

"Frontier is fiercely independent and we pride ourselves on our ability to hold our own in an increasingly globalised business. In the past year, we have toured some of the greatest talent in music today, and I'm so proud of how our Frontier family has continued to set the bar higher and higher for concert promoting in Australia and New Zealand."

Frontier were the only Australian company to be nominated for a Billboard Touring Award (although local outfit 5 Seconds Of Summer were nominated for the 'Breakthrough' category), staring down competition from Montreal's Evenko and Manchester's SJM Concerts to pick up its title as top international independent promoter.

The awards are currently under way, kicking off a shade over two hours ago in the US. Full results will be online in due course. See Billboard's Touring Awards website for more information.
