Western Sydney singer-songwriter Grentperez has just reached a huge milestone in his career, with his debut album Backflips In A Restaurant breaking into the ARIA Albums Chart at #3 following the week of release.

Grent has released four EPs since he first emerged onto the scene in 2021, and has since scored three top 40 placements in New Zealand. Backflips In A Restaurant makes a notable appearance on the charts among international pop heavy-hitter Ariana Grande, and the release of her Eternal Sunshine – Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead album, which brought her back up to #1 from #79.

This marks the biggest leap in placements to #1 since September 2020, where the charity concert album Music From The Home Front went from #83 back to the top spot. Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet continues to hold momentum, maintaining its spot high in the ladder at #2.

Following Grentperez’s #3 placement is Canadian singer Tate McRae with her third studio album, So Close To What, at #4, followed by Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard And Soft at #5.

Backflips In A Restaurant boasts an impressive feat on the chart given the obvious dominance of US acts, with one other album on the chart released on the same day. Elsewhere, Grentperez’s album appears at #1 in the Top 5 Australian Artist Albums and #1 in the Top 5 Vinyl Albums.

Backflips In A Restaurant was released via Fast Friends on March 28th, drawing on the singer’s yearning to showcase the true depths of his artistry.

He teased the essence of the project with the Benny Sings collaboration Fuzzy Feeling in September 2024, a lighthearted love song jampacked with singalong hooks and whimsy lyricism. His moody take on UK spoken word rap played out on his second single 2DK; a track that encapsulates the range of music that inspires Grent.

Dandelion with RUEL was the third single from the album to be released following his live performance, Christmas EP, Christmas (live from a restaurant in downtown Los Angeles), and rounding out the single run was Movie Scene, a groovy R&B track packed with film references.

Grentperez’s organic rise to fame is grounded in the artist’s raw music-making abilities, charismatic onstage presence, unrelenting fan appreciation and “boy next door” nature. If his debut album is to make grandiose waves in its first week of release, his follow-up project is bound to shake the ground completely.
