Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong confronted a fan who allegedly continuously sprayed him with a water gun at a recent concert.

The American punk rockers were headlining the Hurricane Festival in Germany on Sunday (22 June), and according to fan reports, took to the stage after midnight. The festival had faced significant delays and an evacuation due to a thunderstorm, and rather than cancel on their fans, Green Day started performing two hours after they were scheduled to.

The band was in the middle of performing their nine-minute rock opera, Jesus Of Suburbia, when Armstrong paused singing, took off his guitar, strode to the front of the stage, and blasted the fan who had been allegedly spraying him with the water gun.

“You fucking better quit it, or I’ll beat your ass. You understand me? You just better fu- alright,” Armstrong shouted in a video you can watch below (as transcribed by the San Francisco Chronicle). Before directly confronting the fan, the singer held his middle finger towards them while performing.

Responding to the footage on TikTok, a commenter wrote, “Imagine being scolded by Billie Joe Armstrong. I’d be embarrassed.” Another stated, “‘90s Billie Joe almost came back for a sec.”

You can watch fan-filmed footage of the moment below.

Green Day brought their Saviors tour—which included performances of American Idiot and Dookie in their entirety—to Australia earlier this year.

Reviewing their show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, The Music’s Claire Dunton remarked, “An open-top stadium on a balmy night felt like the perfect way to honour Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life). Performed earnestly by the trio of bandmates and friends, it is incredible to remember just how popular this song is, penetrating all genres and pop culture.

“As the crowd emptied Marvel Stadium, the crowds were buzzing with the most uniform-looking attendees we had ever seen. A sea of Green Day band shirts celebrating the 2024/2025 tour as well as previous work tours were seen on all ages, eager to wear a piece of a band important to so many.”
