Is this a fair punishment?
A festival-goer who punted a security guard in the head at Perth's Good Life Festival earlier this year has been sentenced to eight months in prison.
After being jailed last month for breaching bail, 18-year-old Martin Fulton was sentenced in Perth Magistrates Court yesterday, pleading guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm and trespassing after he was caught fence-jumping.
According to Seven News, as the Good Life Festival was an under-18's event, Fulton was not permitted to enter the event, but his lawyer told the court that he went with some friends who were of age.
Fulton's lawyer further claims that he only attacked the security guard, Michael Rigby, because Rigby's forearm was pressed against the throat of another fence-jumper.

"This was not simply a senseless attack - it was a response to something," the lawyer said.
"It certainly was impulsive."
Magistrate Steven Heath deemed Fulton's actions as a "cowardly attack".
"He (Rigby) was focused entirely on dealing with the trespasser," Heath said.
Fulton was fined $500 for trespassing and a further $300 for a separate offence, in which he admitted to stealing a carton of Corona beer in April.
Heath also imposed a two year-prohibited behaviour order which includes a ban from any and all WA festivals and any participation in a social gathering that involves more than 100 people.
"I'd like to think he realises he's going to be restricted," Riley said outside court following the sentence.
"He's going to have to grow up really, really quickly in a big boy's jail."
