The show is awarded best non-scripted entertainment program.

Revered Aussie doco Go Back To Where You Came From has today picked up an International Emmy Award in the outstanding non-scripted entertainment category.

The series tackles the issue of asylum seekers, taking ordinary Australians of certain political persuasions through the process that many face when trying to find their way to Australia to seek asylum. It caused a major stir in Australia when both of its two seasons were shown and was a huge hit for the SBS network where it was shown.

To take out the title, the show beat out MasterChef South Africa, Israel's Dear Neighbors Help Our Daughter Find Love and Colombian program Reto Al Chef 2.

Producer Michael Cordell accepted the award at a ceremony at the New York Hilton, crediting SBS for backing the program and giving credit to the entire production team as well as those who participated in the show.

The International Emmys, which are in their 41st year, are related to the Emmy Awards, but focus entirely on international (as in, non-American) programs.
