Perth songwriter continues global push
Breakout Perth singer and songwriter Georgi Kay has announced that she's signed a deal with UK label Parlophone, with a vinyl release to be followed by an EP later in the year.
Kay, who released latest single Ipswich through Ivy League locally, last week won an APRA Professional Development Award worth $30,000 in cash, prizes and industry services. In the last 12 months she's also won an ARIA Award for Feenixpawl's In My Mind, which she sings on, and was nominated for a Grammy after Axwell remixed the same track. She now joins the UK roster that also boasts Bat For Lashes, Sigur Ros, Lily Allen and Kylie Minogue.
Her solo material, as evident with Ipswich, is a lot more indie-folk than her award-winning EDM/house guest spots and writing credits.
Speaking to theMusic.com.au recently Kay said that the last two years had been “pretty surreal, but it's all I know.”

Already out locally, Parlophone will release Ipswich on a limited edition seven-inch for Record Store Day before the release of an EP later in the year in both the UK and Australia.
Kay added, “I like collaborating. I've done a fair bit of it but every time I collaborate with someone I learn something new. If it doesn't work, next time I know what to do and if it does work, great let's work together… it's a good way of exploring and experimenting sounds. The [award] money's definitely going to be going towards travelling and being able to go back the US and UK and do some co-writes there… I love writing and more than happy to write for other artists as well.”
Along with her run of successes as a musician, Kay features in TV mini-series Top Of The Lake, which is screening on UKTV in Australia.
