Genesis Owusu has announced that his second album, Struggler, will be released on Friday, 18 August, via Ourness/AWAL.

The album announcement is preceded by Owusu’s new single, Leaving The Light, a genre-defying opus with an insane beat, funky melodies, and an otherworldly time and key change. Leaving The Light is accompanied by a music video packed with incredible visuals.

If this is just the first single, what else will we experience before the album comes out? Check out the Leaving The Light music video below.

“The struggler runs through an absurd world with no ‘where’ or ‘why’ at hand,” Owusu detailed in a statement. “Just an instinctual inner rhythm, yelling at them to survive the pestilence and lightning bolts coming from above. A roach just keeps roaching.”

In addition to the album announcement and newly-released single, Genesis Owusu has also announced global tour dates, hitting Australia this December.

On 1 December, Owusu will take to the Ice Cream Factory in Perth, before heading to Melbourne’s Festival Hall on 8 December. The following night, Owusu will perform at the UC Refectory in Canberra, followed by a final set of performances at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on 14 December, Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on 15 December, and a closing performance on 16 December at Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall. Joining Owusu for each show (excluding Perth) will be very special guests, Atlanta hip-hop duo EARTHGANG.
