Genesis Beat Taylor Swift In 2022 Earnings List

Genesis have been revealed as the top-paid entertainers of 2022 via Forbes' list of highest-paid people in entertainment, primarily thanks to the strength of their farewell journey, The Last Domino? Tour. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift was the one woman in the top ten, without even touring last year.

Forbes estimates the amount of money Genesis made in 2022 to be approximately $230 million, with money coming from the farewell tour and royalties from Phil Collins' solo hit, In The Air Tonight. Sting is in second place with an estimated $210 million, mostly powered by selling his solo and The Police discography to Universal Music Group last year.

Billionaire actor and entrepreneur Tyler Perry is next, followed by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, The Simpsons creators James L. Brooks and Matt Groening, Brad Pitt, The Rolling Stones, James Cameron, Taylor Swift, and Bad Bunny.

Interestingly, Swift's $93 million earnings stem from physical album sales, streaming, licensing, and work on films such as Where The Crawdads Sing. Swift's enormous 2023 Eras tour might see her top the list this time next year.

According to Billboard, "Vinyl album sales grew by 46.7% in the week ending Dec. 22 (compared with the previous week), powered by holiday gift shopping. The top-selling vinyl album of the week was Taylor Swift’s Midnights, which sold 68,000 copies – the third-largest sales week of the year for an album on vinyl. (Midnights’ vinyl sales profit from its availability across five vinyl variants – all coloured vinyl editions, including one exclusive to Target)."

Last month, a source revealed to the UK newspaper The Sun that Speak Now will be the next album to drop in Taylor Swift's re-recording series aptly named Taylor's Version, and it's set to come out sooner than we think.   

"Taylor has quietly been in the studio working on remaking both Speak Now and 1989. All details are still being ironed out but Speak Now Taylor’s Version should be out within the next couple of months before she kicks off her Eras world tour," the source said. The Eras tour kicks off in mid-March.

“Many other artists would have paused to enjoy the success she has seen with Midnights, but Taylor is super focused and works around the clock for her fans.”

Swift has already re-released two albums in her Taylor's Version series, Red and Fearless, to great success. On top of that, her most recent album, Midnights, has done incredible numbers in the charts, smashing the single-day streaming record for an album with 184.6 million streams on Spotify and single-handedly raising the vinyl record sales in the UK for the first time in 35 years.
