More Garbage More Garbage

Garbage are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Beautiful Garbage album this year with a special edition reissue.

The group have shared today that the reissue will include remastered original recordings across the black and white double vinyl editions, while the Deluxe 3LP box set will include b-sides, demos, and remixes along with stickers, a poster and a setlist. A deluxe three disc CD set will also be available.

The band will release the products on 1 October 2021, exactly 20 years to the day since the release of the album.

"We wanted to celebrate the release of our third album in the same manner as we have celebrated the 20th anniversaries of our previous two records, as we cherish this third child of ours just as much as its predecessors," said frontperson Shirley Manson.

"Over time it has garnered more and more respect from our fans, with many of the songs remaining in rotation in our live sets to this day. We’ve always felt incredibly proud of this record and felt it was in many ways very much ahead of its time.

"Twenty years down the line, we are all exceedingly grateful to have such well-crafted songs in our discography and are very proud that against all the odds we are still standing and can give our beloved album the tribute it so very much deserves."

2001's Beautiful Garbage represented a shift in sound for the American/Scottish group, who had found global success with their 1995 debut Garbage and 1998 follow-up Version 2.0. Australian fans were clearly impressed though, with the album landing at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and going on to be the year's 29th highest selling album in Australia.

Speaking with The Music earlier this year (ahead of the release of the band's seventh studio album, No Gods No Masters), Manson reflected on Garbage's 30 years as a band and the significant anniversaries they're now experiencing, saying that she's “kind of amazed” looking back at their achievements.

“With every year that we are still here and we’re still healthy and we still get to play together, I feel more and more grateful,” she shared.

“I’m being sincere when I say I’m at that point in my career where I really have to pinch myself sometimes, I’m like ‘holy shit’. Sometimes when I read something about the band in the press or I hear a radio DJ talk about us, I’m almost like, ‘wait, are they talking about us? How is this possible?’” she laughed.

“It seems very surreal and it truly feels as weird as if I told you that you were a rockstar. It feels as foreign and strange and wonderful…

“I don’t necessarily know how we got here, I’m very grateful. I know me and the band have worked really hard and we try to make good decisions, kind decisions, true to who we are decisions and I feel that we’ve never really sold ourselves cheap.

“I think that may be the one thing that I’m most proud of is that we could have done some really scuzzy things to make money and we never, ever did that and that I think is one of our greatest achievements - is that we’re still here and we didn’t step on anybody’s body to get here."
