“I wanted to reflect on how I became dependent on grief for solace and inspiration."
Gang Of Youth's have kicked off 2022 with a bang, releasing their new single In The Wake Of Your Leave today.
The single follows a jam-packed end of 2021, which saw the band perform The Angel Of 8th Ave on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, touring arenas alongside Sam Fender and performing sold-out headline shows in the UK.
The track is the most recent to build the hype ahead of the release of their highly anticipated forthcoming record, Angel In Realtime, set for release on February 25.
While the album collectively charts the range of emotions experienced by Dave Le’aupepe following the loss of his father, In The Wake Of Your Leave reflects on a specific period of the grieving process as a songwriter.
Le’aupepe said: “I wanted to reflect on how I became dependent on grief for solace and inspiration. The cycle from numbness to acceptance to yearning plays a role in my approach to grieving my dad’s death. As a result, most of the time, I feel a bit futile as a person.”
