G Flip has shared their emotional reaction to discovering that Taylor Swift “liked” their recent triple j Like A Version cover of Cruel Summer on Instagram, thanking the megastar for the digital blessing.
Taking to TikTok yesterday, G Flip thanked everyone who watched, shared and liked their cover of Cruel Summer before thanking Taylor Swift. “I’m trying not to cry,” they said. “It’s really cool, and I love your art, and thank you so much, everyone, for getting around this cover.”
The Be Your Man singer, visibly emotional, continued, “I didn’t realise it was going to get so much love, so thank you, OH MY GOD!” In the caption, G Flip wrote, “got a bit emotional cause Taylor is an icon and one of the best songwriters of all time.”

In a separate video reaction posted to their Instagram Stories yesterday, G Flip further displayed their disbelief, informing fans about the creative ideas behind the Cruel Summer cover (via the Daily Mail): “I just wanted to put my own spin on it and write new string parts and a new arrangement, but still use little hints of the original, that magic.”

Revealing that they were awaiting backlash for their rendition, G Flip continued, “I really thought that it was going to get a lot of hate because it's such a big song. And, like, when you take on a big song, you don't want to destroy it or ruin it.”
Here’s hoping that G Flip is invited as a special guest to one of Taylor Swift’s mammoth Eras Australian tour dates and gets to perform Cruel Summer with Taylor.
G Flip recently took home two publicly voted awards at the 2023 ARIA Awards, Best Australian Live Act and Best Video for Good Enough.
Taylor Swift’s gigantic Eras tour lands in Australia next month, with the tour beginning on Friday, 16 February. The Anti-Hero singer will perform three nights at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and four nights at Sydney’s Accor Stadium starting Friday, 23 February 2024. She is poised to break records at both venues.
Special guest Sabrina Carpenter will join Swift on all dates. Head here to find everything you need to know about Swift’s upcoming Australian tour.
