The initiative has also won the backing of Georgia Maq (Camp Cope), Gentle Ben & His Sensitive Side, The Good Ship and more
Stalwart Brisbane venue The Triffid will transform into a platform for change next month when a group of musicians, led by Jason Whalley and Lindsay McDougall of Frenzal Rhomb, hit the stage in support of Australian Greens candidate Kirsten Lovejoy as part of her campaign for the Federal seat of Brisbane.
The key point on which the gig rests is the present, worsening state of Queensland's world-famous Great Barrier Reef, and primarily the impact of demonstrable coral bleaching over the last several years, with new reports indicating that some fish are even unable to develop predator-detection skills due to the smell of dead coral in the water.
With a campaign-launch performance from Regurgitator's Ben Ely already in the bag, the Unbleach The Reef event will, along with Whalley and McDougall, feature the likes of Georgia Maq of Camp Cope, Gentle Ben & His Sensitive Side, The Good Ship, Evil Eddie, Paddy McHugh, Phil Monsour and Bertie's Bleach Bunnies, and DJ performances from Fluent JB and S-Ludz — none other than Greens Senator Scott Ludlam himself.
Further acts are yet to be announced, but if your interest is already piqued (and why wouldn't it be?), make sure you get along to The Triffid from 3pm on Sunday 5 June for a showing of solidarity with Lovejoy and one of the country's most important and utterly irreplaceable national resources.
