Woolyungah/Wollongong’s trap-metal mainstays Flow Kobra have announced their forthcoming EP FLY TO THE SKY, ready for the world to hear on May 30th. Following the success of their widely praised single GUNDA, the band are preparing to take flight with their next project, urging you to buckle in as they catapult you into the FLY TO THE SKY universe.
Leading into the project, the band have released the nostalgic nu-metal track ROLL IT OVER as a testament to what’s to come. Led by lead vocalist Kobe Stimson’s entrancing delivery, thudding bass lines and an invigorating guitar lead, the track is packaged together by early 2000s punky punch – visceral, thrashing, and potent. It’s an age-old recipe that has worked wonders for some of Flow Kobra’s biggest influences like Limp Bizkit and Incubus. However, chucking in a dash of Flow Kobra’s own special ingredients on this track makes the anticipation for their forthcoming EP that much more gripping.
FLY TO THE SKY sees the band depart from the edge and grittiness of their debut album CRINGE CLIQUE last year, vowing not “to take ourselves too seriously" and let the fans in on the inside jokes that humanise them outside of their often dark lyrical storytelling. GUNDA – the predecessor to ROLL IT OVER – sees the band explode with a cathartic mix of pop-punk and trap-metal, sticking to their emotive, raging lyricism through an infectious singalong chorus that has now become a Flow Kobra staple.
“ROLL IT OVER marks a new chapter for us, leaving behind the dark grittiness of CRINGE CLIQUE for a more uplifting and euphoric journey. The track embodies the resilience of making it through life's storms to reach a blissful state, embracing hope and transformation,” said Stimson.
The essence of ROLL IT OVER is expected to be captured at mini-festivals Gongcore and Darkside Fest in Wollongong, with the latter boasting notable acts like Windwaker, Alienist, Sienna Skies and Heists, among others. Flow Kobra will also play in support of Central Coast metal outfit Eviscerate The Crown on Friday, March 28th at La La La’s. Tickets for all shows can be purchased here.
