The pair's Melbourne Festival performance will be their only one for 2015
Stalwart Sydney electro duo Flight Facilities is set to take to the prestigious stage of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl with the esteemed players of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) as part of this year's annual Melbourne Festival celebrations, it has been announced.
Scheduled to be held at the venue on Saturday, 17 October, the performance will be the pair's only show in the city for 2015, so it's little surprise that Melbourne Festival, MSO and the band are uniting to put on a show to remember, staging a fully immersive "recreation of their five-year journey" to making their lauded debut studio full-length, Down To Earth.
Traversing the lads' catalogue of singles, remixes and surprising new flourishes — including not-before-seen-or-heard orchestral and visual elements — the show taps into an existing love of classical music, according to band members and 2013 Melbourne Festival alumni Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell.
"Long before making [2012 single] Clair De Lune, we've both shared a love for classical music," the band said in a statement. "Playing alongside an orchestra was almost inconceivable when we started Flight Facilities, but now we've been given the chance to collaborate and perform with one of Australia's greatest.

"We're taking on the challenge of reinventing not only the way we approach our live show, but our original pieces of music, too. For us, the opportunity to have Melbourne Symphony Orchestra reinterpret the contemporary as classical can only be described as a dream come true."
Tickets for Flight Facilities' performance with the MSO for this year's Melbourne Festival will go on sale from 9am next Wednesday, 6 May.
The full 2015 program (and Flight Facilities' guests) will be announced on Tuesday, 4 August, but to start having a look around at what's available now, head to the event's website.
