Cult San Franscisco rock band The Flamin' Groovies have been announced as the latest addition to Dig it Up!, the invitational festival curated by The Hoodoo Gurus.
As well as appearances at the festival, the Groovies will also perform just-announced headline sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne on the 23 and 27 April.
But it's been a long time between drinks for the band. Formed in San Franscisco in 1965, the Flamin' Groovies have been identified as some of the godfathers of punk-rock and power-pop. Suffering from obscurity and lineup changes, the band stuck it out a long time before finally running out of puff in '92. But they left behind an enviable legacy and one big hit in 'Shake Some Action', which eventually wound its way onto the soundtrack of the 90s romcom classic Clueless.
The 2013 Flamin' Groovies will feature original and founding members Cyril Jordan (guitar) and George Alexander (bass) plus singer/guitarist Chris Wilson. They'll be supported by Peter Case in Sydney with the announcement of the Melbourne support forthcoming.
