Say g'day to a brand new indie label, Fifty Records, built from the ground up by Queensland-bred Sydneysider Casey van Reyk, who has already worked extensively in the music and entertainment industry at Pulse Radio, touring company Finely Tuned and radio station 2SER 107.3fm.

The label will be Sydney-based too, making its entry into the world with the release of Texan hip hop artist D.R.O.'s DRO EP. Despite Fifty Records' hip hop angle on its first release, van Reyk assures the label shouldn't be pigeonholed as a hip hop label.

"I don’t want Fifty Records to just be a straight hip hop label. We’re really going to surprise you," van Reyk says. She also tells of the label's manifesto to "allow each artist to choose their own artwork, have full creative control, and be completely satisfied with their direction."

"We don’t want to lock artists into doing something they don’t want to do. We really want to nurture them."

The DRO EP will be released via Bandcamp on 14 July — in the meantime, keep an eye on the other acts Fifty Records are keen to sign on!
