Spoilers ahead

Netflix has dropped a trailer for the highly anticipated second season of Stranger Things, which has raised a wealth of questions that won’t be answered until the episodes are released on Halloween.

Revealed as a Super Bowl halftime ad, it’s sending fans fucking feral with excitement. Before you disappear down the fan theory rabbit hole - the internet has already gobbled up, fully digested and pooped out a detailed analysis of every tiny nod to a plot found in the trailer - here’s what we learnt from the teaser.

Nostalgia overload

The second season takes place in 1984, one year after the events of season one. Get ready for a sweet mother load of retro pop culture references, including Gremlins, Indiana Jones and, as displayed by our favourite gang of nerds, Ghostbusters.

Eleven returns

At the devastating climax of season one, Eleven goes thermos nuclear to destroy the Demogorgon, leaving nothing but ash, or so we thought. A very fleeting shot of a wide eyed Eleven (plus the fact it’s common knowledge Millie Bobby Brown is due to appear) heralds the return of our favourite tween telepath.

WTF is that thing?

The money shot of this teaser trailer easily belongs to a giant, tentacled hell beast, casually taking a stroll through Hawkins. It seems there are worse things that the Demogorgon in the Upside Down and they’re definitely coming to town.
