Eora-based punk rock quintet FANGZ come out guns blazing on their invigorating new single Wide Awake. With the release comes the revival of FANGZstock in the official form of a tour of Australia’s east coast.
Wide Awake comes after two previous single releases from FANGZ over the course of 2024. The song opens with rolling drums that catapult you into a fiercely growing crescendo before the vocals kick in and take over. It’s a feverish, high energy track that propels any listener into a vicious head bang.
On the meaning behind the song, frontman Josh Cottreau said: “Wide Awake is about that gut-wrenching moment when you're lying awake, realizing a relationship that once felt so right just isn't there anymore. It's that quiet understanding that somehow, along the way, you both changed and now you're almost strangers. There's no anger here, just a bittersweet acceptance—letting go with respect and a bit of sadness, knowing it's time to find happiness in new directions."
Along with the release of Wide Awake, FANGZstock will return as an interstate tour, joined by 4-piece post-metal band Mountain Wizard Death Cult. The tour prioritises shining a light on emerging local acts from each state, with Something Something Explosion, Boofheads, Joy In Motion and Boys at the Back playing with the bands in Brisbane, Raging Hormones, Arabella and The Heist, Damaged Goods Club and Dear Matilda sharing the mic with them in Melbourne and Bare Bones, Dedpan, Creep Features and Second Idol joining them for their hometown show in Sydney. The FANGZstock east coast tour will also feature a Hot Dog Eating Contest, Unlucky Door Prize and a Kissing Booth.
