Eyehategod Confirm Death Of Drummer Joey LaCaze

The passing of Eyehategod drummer Joey LaCaze has been confirmed overnight by the sludge metal band.

Rumours surfaced on his death earlier in the week, however their was no official word until the band posted this statement on their Facebook account and website last night:

"Joseph M. LaCaze, New Orleans native and drummer for EyeHateGod, Mystick Krewe of Clearlight and Outlaw Order passed away on Aug. 23rd in New Orleans after a very successful five week UK and European tour w/ EHG. He also performed ceremonial voodoo drumming and in numerous solo experimental electronic projects. Doctors confirmed to family members the cause as respiratory failure. He also suffered from severe long term asthma."

LaCaze founded the outfit in New Orleans back in 1988 with Jimmy Bower. The band went on to record four studio albums, their last Confederacy of Ruined Lives, was released in 2000. They did continue to tour and were said to be working on some new material.

The drummer turned 42 only two days before his passing.
