Your favourite Riverdale high-schoolers, Archie and the gang, will be teaming up with your favourite punks The Ramones for a mash-up comic book you're going to want to hold onto, the comic book's writers Alex Segura and Matthew Rosenberg have revealed in a San Diego Comic-Con panel.
It's a happy coincidence that the celebration of Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead's 75th birthday and The Ramones' 40th birthday happen to fall on the same year — "a dream come true", according to writer Alex Segura — so the creation of Archie Meets Ramones was a no-brainer.
As ComicsAlliance reports, Segura says, "Matt got in touch with the Ramones’ people, and they were super into it. So I reached out to Gisele, whom I’d worked with before on the “Occupy Riverdale” story and other things. We’re all huge Ramones fans, and though it took a while to work out the details, once things started moving, it actually went pretty quick. It’s gonna be a super-fun oversized one-shot, with covers by some truly amazing artists (whom I can’t announce just yet)."
Artist Gisele Lagace says, "I draw comics today for a living, but I’ve also played in bands; many of those punk rock. We’d often cover songs by The Ramones. Getting to draw Archie Meets Ramones has me fangirling in excitement. I will draw with the energy and passion of a Ramone to ensure my beloved Riverdale gets a Rock ‘N’ Roll High School."
The comic is due for next year and is said to feature the fictitious band The Archies taking on The Ramones in a battle-of-the-bands scenario.
