EXCLUSIVE: Triple J Mag To Close? Staff Made Redundant [Updated]

The future of public broadcaster triple j's bi-monthy print magazine triple j magazine is in doubt after they have allegedly lost their contract with News Custom Publishing, who publish the mag.

NCP – part of the News Limited group – is centralising its business to Sydney by closing its Melbourne office. As a result they have decided not to renew licenses for a number of magazines, including triple j magazine.

The future of the magazine is now in limbo and all the staff working on the magazine, including Editor Jaymz Clements, Music Editor Samantha Clode, Art Director Huy Truong and Production Editor Nat Book, are believed to have been made redundant.

It is believed that freelancers have been notified of the situation and it is currently unclear if ABC will look to continue publishing the magazine. Today theMusic.com.au was led to believe that ABC may continue the publication as an annual.

A spokesperson for triple j and the ABC had not returned theMusic.com.au's calls this evening.

NewsLifeMedia's Director of Communications confirmed to theMusic.com.au this evening that they are not renewing the license agreement and that the June/July issue will be the final published by News Custom.

That final issue under the current license will be released at the end of May.

Update 21 May: A representative from the ABC has confirmed that the magazine will move to an annual format.
