Band join roster with Fleet Foxes, The Flaming Lips and more

Brisbane moody indie outfit The Trouble With Templeton have signed with renowned independent UK label Bella Union which will see their debut album Rookie released around the world.

Out last year locally through MGM, theMusic.com.au can today reveal that they've joined the label's roster that is home to Fleet Foxes, The Dirty Three, Flaming Lips and Father John Misty.

The deal will cover the world outside of Australia and New Zealand.

The band will head over to the UK in May to support the album's release throughout Europe, with the first double A-side single, Soldiers/Glue, to be issued to media this week.

Bella Union founder Simon Raymonde, previously part of Cocteau Twins, said the band has been on his radar for a year after he played their track Six Months In A Cast on his radio show.

“I was already becoming quite obsessed with the tracks I had from Rookie, so seeing them live and meeting them all and Jess [Beston] their manager, it was pretty much like love at first sight and to be honest I knew within two minutes that I wanted to sign them,” he said.

“I am one of life's romantics, I believe in the power of music to heal and I feel a kindred spirit with this band as they, very much like a band I return to time again – Talk Talk – have an elegant ability to tell stories wrapped with complex emotions, with a universal appeal.

"I have seen first hand, having seen the band live now several times, how connected and involved the audience become with this band. [Frontman] Tom Calder is a huge talent, with something many bands lack these days, a genuine charm mixed with a natural charisma."

He added, “I believe strongly that it is only a matter of time before the band affect many more lives as deeply as they have mine with this record.”

Complimenting the Bella Union deal, Templeton are now booked by Dave Chumbley from Primary Talent Agency in the UK, who also looks after Lana Del Rey and Ben Fold's Five. Locally the band is booked by Artist Voice.
