Electronic Label To Drop Compilation LP Because 'Things In Sydney Are Gloomy With Lockouts'

"...we tried to turn the track list into a bit of a journey."

Having launched almost three years ago, Sydney-based electro label Plastic World continues to make waves in the dance scene and it will tick off another milestone this month with the release of its debut compilation album, Volume 1

Founded by former Future Classic recruit James McInnes and Astral People's Vic Edirisinghe, Plastic World's first ever LP features 16 new tracks from artists such as Silent Jay & Jace XL, Sampa The Great and Tim Shiel.

Speaking to theMusic, McInnes says the album not only showcases Plastic World's brilliant roster, but serves as a breath of fresh air for locals since the introduction of Sydney's lockout laws.

"Things in Sydney were also feeling a bit gloomy with the lockouts and closing venues around us so we tried to turn the track list into a bit of a journey," McInnes explains.

"If you listen pretty carefully you go from the beach, to a day party, to night, into a truckload of beers and then to a very atmospheric kick on."

Though the label is renowned for its love of vinyl, McInnes says it just wasn't an option given the amount of music they wanted to release.

"We had so much incredible Australian music that putting it all out on vinyl probably would have banked us up with releases for the next five years and sent us bankrupt," he says.

While two tracks from the album have already dropped, McInnes says there are newly-recorded songs as well as some older unreleased material on the LP

"I think the oldest tracks on Volume 1 would probably be a couple of years now.

"It's actually been super hard keeping them all under a vacuum seal for this long. We picked them to stand the test of time and knew all of the artists on it we're going to be making some absolute heat in the future and wanted to be a part of the journey."

Looking forward, Plastic World also plan to release two more EP's from Donny Benét and The Possé before the end of 2016.
