Eaglemont Announces Debut Album ‘Party Boy’, Shares Title Track

Melbourne (Naarm) indie stalwart Eaglemont has announced her long-awaited debut album, Party Boy, sharing the news alongside the anthemic title track.

In a press release, the artist born Bridg Jessop described Party Boy as “a homage to the kind of relationships you have in your early 20s” – and more specifically, “the kind [of relationship] that’s full of love and lust, excitement and huge feelings”.

She further explained of the feeling she aimed to capture: “While you attempt to navigate the concept of truly being loved and accepted for the first time in your life, you also face the challenges of working in dead end burger shops and the desires and needs of another person.”

Party Boy comes as our fourth preview of its namesake album – which is due out independently later this year – following Vodka Pineapple (which arrived back in July of 2023), You Don’t Live Here (which chased it up in August) and Girls Darts Panic Attacks (which rounded the year out in November). Reviewing the formermost single for TheMusic.com.au, this writer called it “emotive and energised, fusing emo vibes to a bubblegum-y base”.

The album was produced by Jonathan Tooke (best known as one half of Cry Club) and mixed by Oscar Dawson (best known as one half of Holy Holy). According to Jessop herself, the album as a whole is “a languishing walk down every wrong turn, every failed relationship and a sense of acceptance, when it all crumbles and you find your way in the end”.

Expounding on the sentiment, Jessop added: “The album centres around broader concepts such as love and loss, lust, miscommunication, friends and lovers growing apart and letting people you care about down. With a closer look comes moments of deep introspection. The album title, Party Boy, plays into the dichotomy of inviting the chaos in, but then having to face the cold light of the morning after.”

Jessop will preview Party Boy with two gigs at the Merri Creek Tavern in Melbourne later this month – the first show will go down on Wednesday April 24 with support from Bec Stevens (performing solo), followed by a show with guests yet to be announced the following night (April 25).
