Drug Supply Charges Laid In Connection With Stereosonic Death

A 25-year-old Sydney man has been charged with drug supply following an investigation into the death of pharmacist Sylvia Choi, 25, at the city's Stereosonic Festival event last weekend.

According to Fairfax, the man, from Punchbowl, was arrested this morning at Auburn Police Station and charged with two counts of supplying a prohibited drug, and was due to face Burwood Local Court this afternoon. It has emerged that Choi apparently ingested MDMA that had been dissolved in water, falling ill about 5.15pm on Saturday evening before being taken to Concord Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9pm.

The tragedy of Choi's death has sparked a renewed push among the live-music-going community for revised strategies for harm minimisation and better safety for punters who choose to take drugs at festivals; among the proponents for urgent progressive change are physician and drug expert Dr David Caldicott; Aussie rapper Illy; Adriana Buccianti, who lost her son Daniel to an overdose at 2012's Rainbow Serpent Festival; and Rainbow Serpent organisers themselves.
