Their case studies will be examined in Blow Your Own Trumpet
Real life stories from The Drones' Gareth Liddiard, Dan Sultan and Henry Rollins will feature a soon-to-be-released book aimed at those looking to break into publicity in the music industry.
Blow Your Own Trumpet – A Musician's Guide to Publicity & Airplay is written by publicist Stacey Piggott, who has ran campaigns for Falls Festival, Wave Aid and the ARIA Awards as well as working with artists, and she says the book is aimed to dispel myths and provide the know-how to for promoting music without handing cash to a third party, or what you can expect if that time is nigh.
It also features stories from Vikki Thorn (The Waifs), Ray Ahn (The Hard-Ons), Carlo Santone (Blue King Brown), Dan Williams (Art vs Science), Lucius Borich (Cog, Floating Me), Mia Dyson, Ily and Ash Grunwald, as well as a range of industry professionals and managers.

Gareth Liddiard, The Drones: “My advice to bands who are starting out: don't be a shit band! That's a good start.”
Henry Rollins, Black Flag: “People like me have to do every interview there is… I have always thought that keeping mystery around an artist is stupid… We would call papers, magazines and weeklies, asking if they wanted promotional materials. We were our own press agent at that time. It's not all that hard.”
Blow Your Own Trumpet is due to be released November 12 from here. Pre-orders are open now.
