There's Gonna Be A Mass Gathering Live Music Gig In Sydney This Week

Despite no end in sight to the current restrictions around large gatherings amid the COVID pandemic, Aussie punters will be able to attend large gigs again from this week, thanks to a new drive-in cinema-style concert experience.

Drive-In Entertainment Australia has teamed with various councils to launch eight new COVID-safe venues across NSW and Victoria for July 18 that will be able to host up to 600 punters, with other states potentially following.

Patrons will be able to drive into the venue, tune into a dedicated FM channel and kick back to some live music while also enjoying food via on-site food-truck vendors.

They’ll also have the option to live-stream the gig in their car via ZOOM, with the ability to interact with artists.

Sydneysiders will be able to experience the new setup in person this Thursday for free, with Casey Donovan and more set to perform at Robyn Webster Sports Centre in Tempe from midday.

“We like most people in the entertainment industry, we were left devastated when our gigs evaporated overnight,” Drive-In Entertainment Australia Managing Director Samwise Holmes said.

“Rather than let it defeat us, we sought to innovate. Entertainment is what keeps the light on in times like this, we want to keep Australians hopeful and keep entertainers employed – while adhering to strict health regulations. 

“Even if Stage 3 restrictions are realised in July, Australians will still only be allowed to congregate with groups of up to 100 people, and that is not sustainable for most live performances. With the Drive-In Hubs, performers will have the ability to entertain up to 300 cars. And that’s a lot of people having a great night out - safely!”
