Donald Glover Rap Comedy 'Atlanta' Gets Pilot Order

The ball is rolling at last on the actor/writer/rapper's long-awaited series

More Childish Gambino More Childish Gambino

Former Community mainstay Donald Glover has been given the go-ahead by US network FX to create a pilot for Atlanta, a comedy series focused on the trials and tribulations of the title city's rap scene.

As Deadline reports, Glover — who has achieved considerable success in the hip hop game for his work as Childish Gambino — will star as Earnest 'Earn' Marks, a college dropout who rediscovers his own dreams and ambitions after his estranged cousin suddenly becomes a rap star. The rivalry (and probably camaraderie) will play out among the surrounds of Atlanta and its vibrant rap scene, presuming the pilot gets picked up to full series upon delivery.

The FX Productions-backed pilot will see Glover act as showrunner alongside co-executive producers Paul Simms (Girls, Flight Of The Conchords) and Schiff Co.'s Dianne McGunigle. That's all we know about the fledgling show for now, but keep your eyes peeled for further updates as the pilot marches through production.
