...proving once more that Death Grips live just to mess with us
California-bred (and supposed-to-be-defunct) experimental hip-hop group Death Grips have released a new instrumental album — without warning and for free — as fans of the notoriously erratic noise trio hang out for their forthcoming, long-awaited double full-length The Powers That B.
Titled Fashion Week, the typically eclectic collection, which the band is describing as "a soundtrack", is available for download, on SoundCloud and YouTube, and carries a subtle jab at the faithful sitting in anticipation of The Powers That B: collectively, the song titles — Runway J, Runway E and so forth — spell out JENNY DEATH WHEN, a reference to The Powers That B's second disc, Jenny Death. Death Grips first previewed work from that part of the forthcoming full-length last month, with a clip for new cut Inanimate Sensation.
For a band that's supposed to have broken up, Death Grips are doing a good job of acting like anything but. Part of that is undoubtedly to do with the fact that we're still waiting on a piece of work that was in utero at the time of Death Grips' split, but the fact that they're filling the time with even more new material makes it that much harder to let go.
Have a listen to the vocals-free new goods below. The Powers That B — separately, Niggas On The Moon (released in June last year) and Jenny Death — is slated for international release on 10 February.
