Seven nominations and one win later...
Certified Aussie hard-rock legends AC/DC were chosen as the act to open this year's prestigious Grammy Awards, a well-overdue honour for a band that has plugged along as stoically and consistently for as long as the Back In Black scribes have.
The band, boasting recently returned skinsmith Chris Slade at the kit in the absence of embattled drummer Phil Rudd, made the most of the grand-stage opportunity, too, rocketing out of the gates with a stylish, characteristically rough rendition of recent single Rock Or Bust before following it up with enthusiastically received classic Highway To Hell. It would seem Slade has lost none of his rock chops since his original 1989-1994 tenure with the band, having clearly kept on top of his skills in the intervening decades between stints at the AC/DC kit.
You can watch the searing double-song set below.
Although this is AC/DC's first performance at the Grammys - and, according to Consequence Of Sound, their first live outing together in four years - the band have actually been paid a bit of attention by the organisation over the years, having previously been nominated seven times (in 1989, 1991, 1992, 1994, 2009 and twice in 2010), winning once, netting 2010's Best Hard Rock Performance award for War Machine. Highway To Hell, which was let out to play at this year's ceremony, was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1994.
