Australian music icons and collaborators Dave Graney and Clare Moore have announced their new album, (strangely) (emotional), due for release this April.

The album’s release is preceded by the new single Creative Creep, which you can check out below. (strangely) (emotional) will be released on Friday, 12 April – you can pre-order the LP via Bandcamp.

(strangely) (emotional) finds Graney on vocals, acoustic guitar and bass, Moore on keys, bass drum and percussion, and Dave Wray offering soprano and tenor sax, as well as congas.

Creative Creep began with a two-chord guitar lick, with Graney playing it to a drum machine and some bass, the artist declared on his Blogspot. “It’s the most outwardly directed lyric on the album as the rest is quite inward and reflective,” Graney wrote. “Quite personal. Strangely. Emotional.”

Graney continued, “I write song lyrics pretty literally and am surprised when people think I am being ironic or not straight. In this song, I am saying, ‘Let me be a creative creep’. I am a creative creep and like being a creative creep. I'm probably an unreliable person and bad friend or brother or son or basic human being, but my focus is often drawn somewhere else, sorry!”

Adding that Creative Creeps are “bastards”, Graney mentioned that there are a lot of people calling themselves “creatives”, but “the world of a creative gig-economical player is too rough for them, so they try to straighten it out and make it a safe place for them” and make spaces for inclusive. The song says “back off” to anyone decrying someone of being a creative creep.
