Darwin Venue The Chippo Forced To Close Its Doors

The Chippo has been forced to close its doors again

Darwin arts and cultural space The Chippo – often used as a live music venue – has been forced to shut its doors again due to issues with building regulations.

Earlier this month, NT Fire Services issued a cease trade order for not having the correct permits to be operating as a live venue.

Relocated from Coconut Grove last year to an industrial area after the property owners forced the business out, the space was set up in an effort to stimulate creativity in Darwin, and frequently hosted live music, comedy and fringe events.

While operators Rod and Renee Fitzgerald are in the process of obtaining the correct licenses to open again, two months worth of programming – including fringe events – has had to be cancelled.
