Swedish melodic death metal outfit Dark Tranquillity have announced their long-awaited return to Australia after a decade-long absence.

The band last visited Australia in March 2014. Before then, they made their touring debut down under in 2006.

Last week, Dark Tranquillity announced that they’d tour in Japan next March, so it was only a matter of time before we heard about some Aussie dates. The band are heading to Australia before their Japanese dates, locking in three shows along the East Coast.

Starting the tour at Melbourne’s Max Watts on Wednesday, 26 February, the tour continues at Sydney’s Crowbar on Thursday, 27 February, and ends at The Brightside in Brisbane on Friday, 28 February. For their momentous return, Dark Tranquillity will be joined by special guests Eye Of The Enemy.

Hailing from Melbourne, the band are known for their crushing riffs and soaring melodies, making them a top-tier local opening act for the Gothenburg metallers.

With a press release promising that Dark Tranquillity will “dig deep from their rich catalogue to deliver a sonic journey through the past, present, and future of melodic death metal,” fans can expect songs new and old – tracks from the newly released Endtime Signals (which dropped in August) to the band’s ‘90s and 2000s favourites.

Tickets for Dark Tranquillity’s long-awaited return will be available on Monday, 2 December, at 10 am local time. Early Bird pre-sale tickets will be available starting this Friday, 29 November, at 10 am. You can register here for pre-sale tickets and purchase general tickets from the Destroy All Lines website.

In a review of the band’s 2014 show at Sydney’s The Hi-Fi, The Music’s Brendan Crabb said of the show: “Although not the flashiest or trendiest of the trailblazing Swedish outfits, they've been arguably the most consistent. Undeterred by a marginally disproportionate mix, for 90 minutes, they set about underlining just that.”
