Dan Sultan, Butterfingers To Cap Off Huge Year Of Small Fry Rock Shows

As we approach the end of the year, so does the end of another thrilling season of Small Fry Rock.

Small Fry Rock was created for music-loving families that don’t get to enjoy live music as much as they’d like to. No babysitter is required for these shows, so you can bring your kids along and enjoy the show. You don’t even need to wait until nighttime.

On Saturday, 16 November, families can watch the always-soulful Dan Sultan perform at The Triffid, Brisbane, with special guests Radium Dolls, who will deliver a rare acoustic performance. The show starts at 11:30am, and sets are often kept short (but sweet!), with gigs usually wrapping up by 1pm.

If you thought that was already an impressive, must-attend event, there’s another one on the following Saturday (23 November): Butterfingers will play at the Factory Theatre, Sydney, with special guest Ben Ely of Regurgitator fame. Like the Dan Sultan gig, the show starts at 11 am.

Fans should know that Butterfingers’ Brisbane show for Small Fry Rock sold out, but tickets remain for this show, with their full set tailored for little ears - parents be assured they’ve got a super wholesome and PG Butterfingers show on the way!

To celebrate Christmas, Small Fry Rock will wrap up the 2024 season with Josh Pyke hosting two Christmas Book Launch shows. The gigs will take place on Sunday, 8 December, at The Triffid, Brisbane, and on Sunday, 15 December, at the Factory Theatre, Sydney. The set times for all shows always start with doors at 11am, the support act playing from 11:30am-12pm and the headliner from 12:05-12:50pm.

The shows' capacity are limited, so “VIP small fries” can run around, enjoy themselves, and play with balloons. This year, Small Fry Rock shows from Kav Temperley and Hayley Mary, Ben Lee and Katy Steele, Tim Rogers and Henry Wagons, and Butterfingers and Abbe May have sold out. In 2019, Dan Sultan released the adult-friendly kids’ album Nali & Friends. Sultan admitted he found the process of making Nali & Friends “very fulfilling” artistically:

It was one of the most rewarding musical experiences I’ve had to date. I like a lot of different types of music, and what was really refreshing for me was this opportunity to dip into so many musical styles, to represent the various characters’ stories. There’s everything from calypso to flat-out honky-tonk to cinematic ballads with strings.
