One of Australia’s most loved films, Crocodile Dundee, returns to the big screen in 4K screenings in early 2027, with composer Peter Best’s memorable score to be performed live by a full orchestra.

Taking over Darling Harbour Theatre at ICC Sydney on Friday, 5, and Saturday, 6 October, fans will be able to relive the film that’s been stealing viewers’ hearts since 1986. Led by Paul Hogan’s charismatic Mick “Crocodile” Dundee, the film is a story of a reluctant hero.

Paul Hogan wrote the film, which John Cornell produced and Peter Faiman directed, with Peter Best conducting the original score. It’s a comedy with romance and action-adventure elements, while telling a tale of identity, country, and connection to land.

Last year, Peter Best discussed the importance of a film’s composer. For Crocodile Dundee, the score is synonymous with the spirit of its titular character, the sweeping outback landscapes, and the bright lights of Manhattan.

By combining classic composition instruments with didgeridoo, claves, and a wobble board, the film’s expansive vision of Australia is further showcased. Best explained, “The composer tends to be somebody who sees the film more often than anybody else.”

He continued, “I was running the final sequence over and over and had the idea that it just needed rhythm, no music, just a single angle through note, and it all developed from there.

“Crocodile Dundee intrigued the world with its sense of humour, laconic quality, simplicity and charm. It’s a very charming film. There’s something for everybody in Crocodile Dundee.”
