Courtney Barnett, Dan Sultan Win Major Music Victoria Awards

Singer-songwriters Courtney Barnett and Dan Sultan were the big winners at last night's The Age, with both artists taking home two awards each.

The soulful Sultan walked away with the big award of the night, Best Album for his most recent LP Blackbird, while also winning in the category of Best Male Artist. Barnett won Best Female Artist, which The Music presented,  as well as Best Song for her quirky, rambling anthem Avant Gardener.

Other notable winners at the 170 Russell-held event included fuzz-rock ensemble King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard for Best Band, hip hop artist Remi for Best Emerging Artist and Meredith Music Festival for Best Festival.

Aussie legends Daddy Cool were one of the headline performers of the night, playing a handful of their hits including, of course, Eagle Rock. The ceremony also featured performances from artists such as Davey Lane, Stonefield and Henry Wagons, who hosted the night's proceedings. Veteran music journalist Ed Nimmervoll, who passed away last month, was inducted into the Hall Of Fame by acclaimed musician Russell Morris.
