It certainly seems to be the most expansive rock and metal festival to hit the US in a long time.

The line-up for the inaugural Power Trip festival in California is due to drop in the coming hours, with a leaked poster and the bands on it teasing their appearances.

Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC and Tool have all posted about the festival. The leaked poster also includes Guns N’ Roses.

Will this be the biggest rock and metal festival since Download? It certainly seems to be the most expansive rock and metal festival to hit the US in a long time.

As sources have told Variety, Power Trip is set to occur where Coachella does: on the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

The festival name is likely an offshoot of the 2016 event, Desert Trip - which hosted the likes of Neil Young, Sir Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Roger Waters and The Who - not a reference to the Texas thrash metal band, Power Trip, who, as BrooklynVegan pointed out, don’t seem very happy.

Power Trip will be put on by Coachella founders Goldenvoice and, as Scenestar revealed to Variety, will take place from 6-8 October. Check out teasers for the festival below.

The appearance of Ozzy is interesting, as last month, he shared that he had retired from touring.

“This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans,” Osbourne said.

“As you may all know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine. My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine.

"However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.”

Metallica, meanwhile, are due to release the title track from their upcoming album, 72 Seasons, later today - to coincide with the official Power Trip festival announcement?

The album 72 Seasons will be released on 14 April - you can pre-order it here.
