“We were still playing pubs, with the audience spilling onto the stage and the band spilling into the audience."
Cold Chisel have announced the next installment of their archival 'Live Tapes' series.
Captured on two multitrack tapes on a Friday night in Sydney in February 1980, the iconic Aussie outfit will release The Live Tapes Vol 5 - Live at the Bondi Lifesaver on 11 December.
The Bondi Lifesaver gig took place after a massive 43 shows over 56 days and just three days before the band went back into the studio to record their third album, East.
“In 1980, we were fighting fit and hungry, playing every show like it was our last – and often it almost was,” frontman Jimmy Barnes said.
“We were still playing pubs, with the audience spilling onto the stage and the band spilling into the audience.

The news comes after it was announced that Barnes' new book, Killing Time, has blitzed the Australian bookseller charts.
The book, made up of short stories from Barnes' life, debuted as Australia’s #1 non-fiction book overall, #1 in Australian non-fiction books, and #1 in autobiography.
"I'm grateful to everyone who’s supported this new book – it’s never taken for granted," Barnes said.
"Writing all these short stories helped me pass time over a challenging year. Hopefully, reading them can do the same for other people."
Barnes recently appeared on The Green Room with Neil Griffiths podcast to promote Killing Time.
