"We really tried to capture that sense of madness in the final chorus.”
Melbourne rock outfit City Calm Down have been teasing fans with the prospect of new music since late last year, and it seems the wait has been well worth it as they burst back into the spotlight with a new single and run of Aug/Sept tour dates to celebrate.
The eclectic new hit from the quartet, Blood, will see them embark on their first headline stint in almost a year and is an exciting taste of what the rest of their second EP will deliver.
Lyrical inspiration for the song came when vocalist Jack Burke was trying to juggle his day job and touring commitments, which ultimately led to him quitting his job.
“They touch on the grind of work and how easy it is to isolate yourself from the people who matter to you by being too caught up in your own ambition and what you’re doing,” Burke explains.

“This is a place I feel we ended up towards the end of recording the album.
“We were running late-night recording sessions during the middle of the week when we all had work the following morning, and we were all just emotionally exhausted by the end. Not to let an opportunity go to waste, we really tried to capture that sense of madness in the final chorus.”
With Melbourne soul ensemble The Cactus Channel supporting on all dates, tickets go on sale this Friday, June 16, with more details in theGuide.
