Indie rapper Childish Gambino – aka Donald Glover – has announced sideshows for his upcoming Big Day Out jaunt, with moderate-sized Sydney and Melbourne venues set to receive the actor and musician.

Although he has been releasing mix tapes for years, it been recent album Camp and the rise of hipster comedy Community that garnered him a billing on the world-renowned touring festival.

With tickets on sale Thursday 22 November from here, he'll be playing the following dates:

Wednesday 16 January – The Standard, Sydney
Tuesday 23 January – The Hi-Fi, Melbourne
