It's honestly getting embarrassing
It's a busy world we live in. Everyone is constantly on the go, rushing from one thing to the next with barely a spare second to think about scratching themselves, much less having the time to actually enjoy doing it.
But perhaps every so often it would be wise to slow down, or stop altogether, and take a long, hard look at yourself and the person across from you, like really look at them, and think, "Is this famous person I am interacting with actually the person I think they are?"
It's been a weird theme this week; it's no longer just a case of The Smiths ex-drummer Mike Joyce being told who Johnny Marr is by a helpful but misguided fan at a Last Shadow Puppets gig — it's an epidemic.
Seriously, does nobody google each other any more? Belarus customs officials mistook the Red Hot Chili Peppers for Metallica and made Flea sign a bunch of merch despite his protests that they were not Metallica. Then poor old apparently short-sighted Led Zeppelin fan Jennette Concannon mistook Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine for Jimmy Page, despite the fact those two men also look absolutely nothing alike.

And now, Cher. Dear old Cher. Mermaids' Cher. One of Twitter's finest accidental comedians. A hugely underrated dispensary of a constantly bewildered and often belligerent thought stream in 140 characters or less. God, she's a gem. But even she is fallible, mistaking our former PM, Tony Abbott, for Nigel Farage, the bloke who helped fuck up the United Kingdom and then pissed off into the night.
As News Corp notes, regardless of your stance on the Abbott Years, it was a pretty unfiltered takedown. One she has since apologised for after being informed of the error, yes — but, still, maybe better to hold off on doing these sorts of things until you're sure you've got the celebrity you were after, because this is just getting out of control. Rein it in, people.
