Chat Pile Reveal First-Ever Australian Tour Dates

"Since you can’t tell us to come to Australia anymore, please feel free to tell us what the good restaurant/bar/bookstore/record store is at each stop," Chat Pile requested.

Popular Oklahoma noise rock band Chat Pile will tour across Australia and New Zealand for the first time in June, making their long-awaited debut in the region.

Having already sold out two shows at Hobart’s Dark Mofo, the group’s first-ever shows Down Under have been met with incredible demand.

The tour begins at Perth’s The Rechabite on Tuesday, 9 June. From there, it continues at Sydney’s Manning Bar on Thursday, 11 June, Melbourne’s Max Watts on Friday, 12 June, Hobart’s Altar Bar as part of Dark Mofo on Saturday, 13 June, Brisbane’s The Triffid on Sunday, 14 June, and concludes at Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Tuesday, 16 June.

Following their Australian shows, Chat Pile will head to New Zealand, performing at Auckland’s Tuning Fork on Thursday, 18 June, and finishing the run at Wellington’s San Fran on Friday, 19 June.

Tickets are now available on the Birds Robe website.

Announcing the tour on social media, the band wrote, “AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND. With loving hostility, you demanded that we play your continent.” Revealing that they’re heading this way in “proper fashion,” Chat Pile also told fans that New Zealand sludge metal act BEASTWARS would join them on select dates.

They added that they’re keen to spend time at their fans’ favourite spots, writing: “Since you can’t tell us to come to Australia anymore, please feel free to tell us what the good restaurant/bar/book store/record store is at each stop. We’re trying to have a good time out there.”

Chat Pile formed in 2019, pulling their name from “piles of chat” – byproducts of mining that are commonly found in their home of northeast Oklahoma. They started performing under the stage names Raygun Busch, Luther Manhole, and the brothers Stin and Cap’n Ron – a way to avoid being identified by previous employers.

Known for their unique brand of “noise rock” that conjures elements of post-punk, nu-metal, and grunge, the band signed with the American “dark music” label The Flenser in 2020. They dropped their debut album, God’s Country, in 2022, followed by Cool World in 2024. Last year, they unveiled the collaborative album, In the Earth Again, with musician Hayden Pedigo.

Earlier this year, they dropped the new single Masks along with the B-side that saw them cover Nirvana’s Sifting.
