Iconic New York City punk rock venue CBGB will be the subject of an upcoming documentary. Filmmakers Randall Miller and Jody Savin are working on the film, which covers the history of the venue that launched the careers of the Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, and many more pioneers of punk rock.
Savin explained that the film "will center on the real-life story of Hilly Kristal's CBGB club and its impact on the underground music scene. This is a film about an era of music, about a place that I hung out at in New York in the early '80s and about an unsung champion of new music."
The club closed in 2006 due to an ongoing dispute between Kristal and the property's landlords.
