"I wanted an operatic chorus with no lyrics, but salted with some very real disillusionment: past all the distraction, dead ends, and false promises of the world is the love we too often take for granted. That's my sunset."
Caroline Polachek has today revealed her bold new single Sunset and its sun soaked accompanying music video. Already receiving acclaim from fans , Polachek previewed Sunset across shows and festivals around the world over the past year.
Sunset follows acclaimed singles Billions and Bunny Is A Rider, which have solidified Polachek as one of the world's best pop songwriters. Since the release of her critically heralded 2019 album PANG, Polachek has been in extreme demand, opening for Dua Lipa on her North American Future Nostalgia tour to huge performances at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, Primavera sound and many more.
Her latest single Sunset is produced by Polachek herself alongside Sega Bodega and pushes her already gorgeous sonic imprint even further. Her vocals shine around balearic beats driven by warm guitar strums and hand claps. Vocally she reflects on fearless love and youthfulness, which is perfectly reflected in the tracks video. Directed alongside Matt Copson on location in Barcelona, the video shows Polachek pacing through beach and city life before crescondoing into the sunset.
On the track Polachek says, “Resolution is so rare in life, but music is unnaturally full of it. A sunset is the biggest pop cliche ever because it's a perfect resolution. Ennio Morricone passed away a few months before Salvador (Sega Bodega) and I started "Sunset", and the folkloric, epic tone of the spaghetti western sunset played on my mind. I wanted an operatic chorus with no lyrics, but salted with some very real disillusionment: past all the distraction, dead ends, and false promises of the world is the love we too often take for granted. That's my sunset."
