'Buffy' Star Nicholas Brendon Joins Oz Comic-Con Line-Up

11 August 2014 | 4:36 pm | Staff Writer

He'll be appearing for fans in Brisbane and Sydney

The man best-known to fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer as hapless teen-turned-badass Xander Harris, Nicholas Brendon, has been revealed as the newest addition to Oz Comic-Con’s esteemed line-up at its Brisbane and Sydney events this September.

Along with the majority of the show’s cast, Brendon stuck out Buffy’s full seven-season run, progressing from little more than comedic relief to being an unlikely hero in his own right, paired with smoking hot hellspawn Anya and imbued with military-esque skills and nous after a Halloween on which people took on (and some, such as Xander, seemed to retain) qualities of the costume they were wearing.

For fans who followed the show into print format with the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Eight comic book, they know all too well exactly how badass Xander ended up (read: at least enough to match the fact he wears an eyepatch), as the worldwide commander of an army of Slayers to rid the planet of undead scum. Hell yeah.

None of which is to discount how Brendon’s been keeping busy since Buffy’s end in 2003 – he’s been doing a great job over on Criminal Minds as Kevin Lynch, the boyfriend to tech analyst Penelope Garcia, for the past seven years, so it’s not all Scooby Gangs and the supernatural that you can ask him about when he’s here, you know.

Brendon joins an already impressive roster of personalities coming along for the event’s inaugural showings in Brisbane and Sydney, including William Shatner, Jason Momoa (Game Of Thrones), Booboo Stewart (X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the Twilight saga), Chris Judge (Stargate SG-1), Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse 13), Colin Ferguson (Eureka, Haven) and voice actors such as Jim Cummings (the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger) and Bill Farmer (a veteran Disney performer and the voice of Goofy), as well as several guests from around the comics, graphic novel and publishing worlds to round things out in style.

Oz Comic-Con hits Brisbane’s Convention and Exhibition Centre on September 6 and 7 before the convoy rolls on down to Sydney Exhibition Centre at Glebe Island the following weekend, September 13-14.

Tickets are available now. See the event website for more information.
