Indie-rock-pop five-piece Broken Waves are about to - fittingly - make waves with their upcoming single, Do You Understand?

Slated for an October 18th release, Do You Understand? is an instant indie-funk hint that boasts a clean, steady groove. The single is in particular bolstered by deft work from saxophonist Daisy Davidson - the instrument is soaring and giddy when it needs to be, but modest when the beat and the thematic content of the track requires.

A politically charged moment for the band, with Do You Understand? Broken Waves look to tackle the rise of misogyny in online spaces and the lack of healthy models of masculinity for the younger generation.

Lead guitarist Will Physentzou states, “We were finding ourselves trapped in this contrast of being told to ignore toxic influencers preaching backwards ideas while also asking, ‘Who are the real role models that young men need today?”

“Lyrically, we wanted to use satire to drive the point home,” the band shares, referring to tongue-in-cheek lines such as ‘born to slay, forced to serve and bite down on that red pill baby, aren’t you brave.’

The band has been steadily gaining momentum in the Adelaide music scene, boasting eleven successful releases and constantly selling out local shows.

Broken Waves will be launching the single at Jive, the charming and infectiously energetic local venue, on October 19th, joined by alt rock five-piece LOOPOLE and indie-pop outfit Satin Sun.

Though the single has a strong political event, its spicy groove will render it instantly danceable.

Do You Understand? will be available to stream everywhere online as of October 18th, and tickets for the single launch are available now.
