"I cared so much [about my work] and they literally killed me. They threw me away. I felt like my family threw me away. I was performing for thousands of people a night at Vegas. The rush of being a performer, the laughter, the joy, the respect ... I was a machine. I was a f---ing machine. It was insane how hard I worked.I honestly deserve an award for acting like I was OK every day. I thought they were trying to f---ing kill me.”
Britney Spears has broken her silence on the controversial involuntary conservatorship that she was forced to live under for thirteen years.
The Guardian reports that Spears shared – and then deleted – a 22-minute voice note via YouTube revealing new allegations about the thirteen years she spent under the conservatorship.
In the voice note, Spears makes several new allegations about the conduct of her family during that time frame revealing that at times she felt like they were trying to kill her.
At one point in the voice note, Spears states “I cared so much [about my work] and they literally killed me.
The voice note is the first time that Spears has commented on the conservatorship and it reveals that the pop star still doesn't understand how or why she ended up living under the conservatorship. As the Sydney Morning Herald reveals
“Literally, the extent of my madness was playing chase with paparazzi – which, still to this day, is one of the most fun things I ever did about being famous. So I don’t know what was so harmful about that. There were no drugs in my system, no alcohol, nothing. It was pure abuse ... [My family] made me feel like nothing. I went along with it because I was scared.”

The heartfelt recording also reveals several new allegations from Spears concerning the moment that she was placed under conservatorship, indicating that she feels that the incident leading up to her being placed under involuntary psychiatric hold was "premeditated".
"I remember my mom was sitting on the couch, and she said, ‘We heard people are coming here today to talk to you. We should probably go to a hotel or something.’ I never really understood what she meant," Spears said, while characterizing the entire thing as "pure abuse." "I didn’t believe her. Like, is a lawyer coming here? Who is coming here? Four hours later, there were over 200 paparazzi outside my house videotaping me through a window of an ambulance, holding me down on a gurney.”
During the recording, Spears indicates that for all practical purposes her father Jamie Spears was "Britney Spears" and was "calling the shots" when it came to every aspect of her life.
Spears also reveals in the recording that she turned down an offer from Oprah to discuss her life under the conservatorship, stating that it felt “kind of silly” to get paid for her story.
Spears has not commented publicly since deleting the video. You can view segments of it, captured and broadcast by Good Morning America before it was taken down below.
Spears recently released her first new official music in six years in the form of the single 'Hold Me Closer'. A collaboration with Elton John 'Hold Me Closer'.
'Hold Me Closer' follows a similar path to that of PNAU’s remix of Cold Heart feat. Dua Lipa and has been described as “a joyous dance future-anthem dripping with summer abandon”.
“I am absolutely thrilled to have had the chance to work with Britney Spears; she truly is an icon, one of the all-time great pop stars and she sounds amazing on this record,” John said.” I love her dearly and am delighted with what we've created together.”
Spears added: “I was so honoured when the incredible Sir Elton John asked me to join him on one of his most iconic songs. We are so excited for the fans to hear it! Thank you, Elton, for having me! I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to work with you and your legendary mind.”
