Brisbane To Enter Three Day Snap Lockdown

"We need to do this now to avoid a longer lockdown."

The Greater Brisbane area will enter a three day snap lockdown from 5pm today.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the news at a conference today after an additional four cases of COVID-19 were acquired through community transmission.

"We will have to go into a three day lockdown. This is the UK strain. It is highly infectious," said Palaszczuk this morning.

"We need to do this now to avoid a longer lockdown and that lockdown will commence at 5pm this afternoon."

The areas included in the lockdown are Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich and Redlands.

Live music events across the Greater Brisbane area are expected to be cancelled or postponed throughout the morning.

Queensland's Health Minister Y'vette D'ath has confirmed that two of the positive cases did travel to New South Wales' town Byron Bay while infectious. NSW Health is yet to respond to the news publicly.

It has also been confirmed that one case did also travel to Gladstone, Queensland while infectious, spending three days in the community.

More to come.
