As the rock scene reaches
saturation point, bands are finding they have a lot to prove to stay
in the game; and none have risen to the challenge quite like Brand
New. Having formed in 2001, the Long Island four-piece has built
a massive cult following based on notorious live shows, relentless touring
and three jaw-dropping albums.
After nearly three years
of self-imposed silence Brand New finally emerged in late 2006
with their hotly anticipated third album, The Devil and God Are Raging
Inside Me. The critical and commercial acclaim for the album’s
vast sonic layers and dark indie-rock overtones was instantaneous. Alternative
Press quickly labelled the band as the ‘American Radiohead’ and
the album as “A quantum leap above not only Brand New's prior
work... but beyond anything that any band in this scene are currently
creating”.
Australian fans were
rewarded for their patience and persistence as Brand New performed a
string of brilliant concerts up and down the East Coast. All shows sold
out within a matter of days with thousands of fans left pondering what
could have been. For those fans lucky enough to score tickets they were
treated to one of the most electric and moving performances of 2007.
Recently announced on
the massive Big Day Out lineup, Brand New will also be performing select
one off shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
